· Introduction ·
Exercise is supposed to energize and motivate us right?
So why do we sometimes feel like it’s such a heavy burden? And not only that, but those times become periods that end up affecting us in various aspects of life.
If this sounds familiar to you, don’t worry, you’re NOT ALONE.
· Purpose ·
When we start exercising or even when we have been doing it for a long time and suddenly we feel that we lose motivation, many times it is the body that is telling us that we need a break or that is what many trainers want us to believe, but the true is different.
The motivation and energy to exercise should not depend on your physical state. On the contrary, it must depend only on your mind.
The body may be tired or even if you are not used to exercising it may be that the body is getting out of its comfort zone, but in the end, the body does not work without a mind and if you cannot convince yourself to start or continue, it is not that Your body is more powerful than your mind.
So, what we have to do is strengthen the mind?
The short answer will be yes and not. Of course with a better mentallity it will be easier to stay motivated, but some times you just need a change.
So let us propose some ways in which you can motivate yourself.
· One step at a time ·
I have met so many people who make the decision to change their lives and I deeply congratulate them for the courage that this requires, but the biggest mistake that we do constantly find in Simple Ideas is that most people believe that in order to change their lives, they must change all aspects at once and this is the worst mistake.
When we started this project we always knew that giving people ideas and ways to improve their lives in the 4 areas that Simple Ideas focuses was risky, as many people would go into all the categories and try to make changes in all of them at the same time.
In order to change we must let nature motivate us by itself.
My first advice is that if you decided to change your habits and want to have the body of your dreams, or simply improve your health, then, start with one thing at a time.
Start with exercise, but don’t go on a diet.
WHAT?…
Exactly, in fact I would recommend that every time you manage to exercise you reward yourself with what you like the most and if that is a pizza, chocolate or a massage, go ahead.
You wonder why? Everybody says that’s not right.
But the reality that we have been able to verify thousands of times in Simple Ideas is that when a person starts only with the exercise without modifying absolutely ANYTHING else in their routine, between 1 to 3 weeks they will notice a difference.
Unintentionally you will endure more repetitions, in just 2 weeks they will lift more weight. In 3 weeks they will see lines and muscles that no matter how small the changes, they will notice the difference and not only that, but at the same time they will begin to sleep better and go to the bathroom better.
ALL this only starting with 1 thing.
Unconsciously you will start to want more and that is when the mind motivates you and you have to go with the flow. You will start to take care of your food, change your routines, sleep better and in less than 2 months you will be a completely different person.
Of course as long as you don’t try to control everything from day 1 and start with only 1 thing.
· Slow Down ·
I know that the first advice is mainly for people who are just starting out, but from now on I will address everyone.
Remember, not all exercises have to break your balls and leave you sweating on the floor without being able to breathe or without being able to do another repetition.
In fact it is very important that you NEVER train at 100% of your capabilities.
What?
Everyone says that to grow muscle you have to get to the point where you can’t lift another weight right?
That’s right, the muscle grows when we push it. But when we talk about not reaching 100% of your capabilities, we want to remind you that your body is not just 1 muscle and not only that, you also have to take into account your cardiovascular and respiratory capacity.
We recommend that you never train more than 80% of your abilities. That doesn’t mean you can’t exhaust a muscle group. But do not exhaust all of them or all your capabilities. This way you will leave the body and the mind with that desire for more.
A good routine should leave you wanting more.
Of course, if you are going to take a weekend off, on Friday you can do a routine that exhausts you 100%, but not the rest of the days, and if you have the possibility, always add stretching or Yoga between your workouts.
Many times we forget that the body has more than 600 muscles and not all of them can be exercised carrying weights.
· Go outside ·
Almost always we are all used to exercising at home, in front of television or in a gym.
I don’t want you to change your routine. I believe that to have successful exercises you must have a place where you can exploit your capabilities to the fullest.
If you want to do weights or an exercise video or a Yoga class, it is MUCH BETTER to do it in places where you are comfortable and have the necessary equipment at hand.
That said, we really recommend that you go outside to exercise at least once (there is no time frame, just once).
From a walk a jog or even here I leave you some options for you to try something different.
If you do it once, this will help motivate you again and not only that, over time you will be able to include it in your routine and you will be able to go out and do something different 1 time a month or a week.
Obviously we don’t want to waste that subscription to the gym right?
· How about something new ·
The best workout is the one you haven’t done yet.
Many times the lack of motivation is because we get used to the routine and we do not realize that since we constantly believe that we do things differently by changing them by day.
But in the end a weight routine is a weight routine. Changing the days or the machine does not change the routine of changing to the same clothes, going to the gym, talking to the trainer and starting to use a machine.
So what do we do? Not all the exercises are aimed at the goal we seek.
That is a big lie.
All exercises and we mean ALL, have the same goal.
Better body, stronger, healthier, athletic and much more.
From YOGA to HIIT (high interval training), including weights. Although some have muscle growth as a priority, others cardiovascular development and so, in the end they all have the same goals, TO BE BETTER.
Researching the Simple Ideas team found some fun alternatives that you could try for a day or a week and we leave them here.
That said, we don’t want you to change FOREVER, we just want you to try something different for 1 day, a week or 1 month. Learn that there are muscles that are not exercised with a single type of exercise, grow in other areas of your body and then you can return to what you like the most.
There is nothing better to motivate you than a change, although many times they want to deceive us by telling us the opposite.
You can also combine exercises, you don’t have to change everything in one day.
· Spoil yourself ·
New shoes, new equipment, clothes or even gadgets can constantly motivate you.
You don’t need to spend it all on workout gear. But from a towel a band or a new thermos for your protein. No matter how small the gift you give yourself, it will motivate you to use it.
It’s exciting to wear new things and many times we can’t wait to use it and see how it looks, how it fits us or even how they see us.
As we said at the beginning, nothing better to motivate you than to pamper yourself and reward yourself.
· Believe in the music ·
It is proven that music is one of the main ways to motivate and focus people.
It’s all in what we listen to.
Still, we find so many people working, studying and exercising without listening to music or without headphones.
At Simple Ideas we have always wondered why?
It is true that some accessories are expensive, but today there are thousands of very cheap and compatible options and in the end we are not looking for quality but inspiration.
Worse yet, there are so many ways to listen to free music that we have a hard time accepting that people don’t use it for inspiration.
In the end we understand that not all melodies work for everyone, but what is proven is that there is a melody for you.
That is why we recommend that you look for a song that you like from each of these genres:
- Top 40 Dance Hits.
- Pop
- Hip hop.
- Heavy Metal.
- Soft Rock
- Sports Anthems.
- BigBand.
Do the same exercise listening to each of these songs.
It doesn’t matter if you listen to one per day, all the same day or it takes you a month.
It doesn’t matter if you listen to it before, during or after.
When you find the genre that motivates you the most to exercise, you can always turn to it when you need it
· Train in the morning ·
It doesn’t matter what some trainers say about the different times of the day and how they affect your training and motivation.
Also don’t listen to people who tell you to change your schedule and train on a new one to change things.
You HAVE to train in the morning.
In fact, it is the first thing you have to do in the day. Only if you live alone and train on your way to work, school or whatever your routine is for the day, then make your bed first but next has to be training.
Training in the morning has many more motivations than you will find in a health or diet post.
It is true that training in the morning is better to lose weight and you can have more energy during the day, or training at night is better to gain muscle mass since you produce more hormones and have more energy and so you will find many more comments that you can find in thousands of Posts.
But if what you want is to stay motivated, with real and consistent results that do not depend on anything or anyone, including traffic, appointments, work, children, etc., then training has to be the first thing you do in the day.
The main effect of training being the first thing you do in the day is that when you finish, you will have already completed 1 task for the day.
Sounds silly right?
Well it isn’t. The feeling generated in people by finishing and concluding something is pure satisfaction and excitement. It makes us feel better and more capable.
That is the energy that your day and your life needs.
Starting the day knowing that even if the day will end at that moment, you already finished something and reached a goal. This is going to give you the most motivation you can find.
I don’t care if you have to get up at 4 or 5 in the morning, it’s better to sleep an hour before and start the day with an achievement.
· Final Words ·
It is normal to feel the lack of motivation, what is not normal is not doing anything about it.
If you find yourself in this situation, it’s time to make some changes and try different approaches to solve the problem.
Remember, you don’t have to change your life all at once. many times small adjustments can give you more results with less impact.
As always below I leave you some recommendations to keep you motivated.
